A new study actually subjected participants to trans fat consumption. Study members either ate 6 grams of trans fat per day for 6 weeks, or consumed no trans fats for 6 weeks. The group consuming the trans fats had significantly higher levels of oxidation of fats within their bodies. Remember that oxidation is what antioxidants are supposed to stop. Oxidation plays a role in heart disease, cancer, dementia, and many other disorders. The study, performed by researchers in Germany and Sweden, concluded that Europeans are probably not endangered by trans fats because their consumption is so low. That is not so in the U.S., where people still use margarine, and commercial baked goods are loaded with trans fats. I did a little math and discovered that 1 stick of margarine weighs 113.4 grams--that means that about one twentieth of a stick of margarine supplies you with the dose of trans fats used in this study!
Remember, read labels on your food--buy nothing that says "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated". Use a food based antioxidant and undenatured whey protein to boost your antioxidant status and combat former transgressions!
