New research made a striking observation; for every 2% increase in trans fats that a women consumes, her risk for infertility goes up by 73%.
This research from the January 2007 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition is stunning and horrifying. We've known for some time that trans fats are associated with heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and dementia, but this is the first study on infertility that I have seen. It is horrifying to think that most pre-packaged goods bought in conventional supermarkets contain trans fats. These harmful fats have been outlawed in several European countries, and have just been banned in New York City. Starbucks is also removing trans fats from products they carry.
Tran fats are made by hydrogenating liquid oils to make them solid at room temperature. Never eat any product that has says hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated on the label! These man-made fats are poison, not food!
