Foods high in substances called flavonoids decrease risk for cardiovascular disease, researchers say. The researchers followed 34,489 women for 16 years. They filled out food-frequency questionnaires during that time. The following flavonoid-rich food sources were found to be the most protective against cardiovascular disease, stroke, coronary heart disease, and total mortality:
- Bran—reduced stroke and cardiovascular disease.
- Apples, pears, and red wine all reduced coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease. Remember that red wine is a rich source of resveratrol—natures most potent source of this compound is Hu Zhang, which is available as an organic extract in a product called Zyflamend in my web store.
- Grapefruit reduced coronary heart disease.
- Strawberries and chocolate both decreased cardiovascular disease.
I don’t know about you, but I’m having strawberry-chocolate fondue tonight!
