Tuesday 5/29/2007 Finger Length and Your Brain

Finger length predicts intellectual strengths and personality, researchers say.  We have long known that greater testosterone exposure in the womb causes one to have a longer ring finger, and that greater estrogen exposure in the womb results in a longer index finger (I know you're looking at your hand!)What researchers just determined is that you can tell what your intellectual strengths are simply by looking at your fingers.

People with "longer ring fingers compared to index fingers are likely to have higher math scores than literacy or verbal scores on the college entrance exam, while children with the reverse finger-length ratio are likely to have higher reading and writing, or verbal, scores versus math scores."

In addition, people with longer ring fingers are more likely to have aggressive personalities.  "'Finger ratio provides us with an interesting insight into our innate abilities in key cognitive areas,' Brosnan said, in a prepared statement. The results will be detailed in an upcoming issue of the British Journal of Psychology."
