Raw milk is now for sale in health food stores throughout the state. Raw, unpasteurized, non-homogenized milk is health food. It is rich in friendly flora (the "good" bugs that your body needs for optimum health), immune stimulating compounds, and healthful enzymes. It is a true health food!
If you still have concerns about the safety of raw milk, consider the following; in 1998 the American Journal of Public Health determined the incidence of food-borne illness from raw milk to be 1.9 cases per 100,000 people, the CDC (centers for disease control) determined that for pasteurized milk the incidence of food-borne illness is 4.7 per 100,000. All data that I have seen shows raw milk to be a safer, healthier choice than pasteurized milk. For this reason I raise dairy goats and my family consumes milk, yogurt and cheeses made from fresh goat’s milk. Below is a link to an excellent presentation on the subject. It is a bit long, but very worthwhile to read--it outlines the health benefits of raw milk, the drawbacks of pasteurization, and is very well referenced with scientific literature.
