Daily supplementation with whey protein leads to a reduction in blood pressure, researcher say. The study followed 70 men and women with elevated blood pressure over the course of 12 weeks. The participants either received whey protein or glucose (sugar) supplementation during that period.
At both 6 and 12 weeks it was found that the group using whey protein had significant reductions in systolic and diastolic (the top and bottom number) blood pressure.
There are several mechanisms that may responsible. One is that whey protein is rich in amino acids that have a relazing effect on blood vessels. Another is that supplementing with undenatured whey protein boosts your body's most powerful antioxidant and detoxifier, glutathione. This reduces oxidative stress on the body and may lower blood pressure.
Read the study here. Here is an excellent undenatured whey protein available in my store.
