Exclusively breastfeeding your infant for the first several months of her life and providing her with a pet are two of the most important choices you can make. If you have read my article, "Immune Dysfunction", you know the important role that T-helper cells play in regulating the immune system. T-helper 1 (Th1) cell predominance helps your body to develop a healthy immune response--one that fights disease. Th2 cell predominance drives your immune system toward overactivity, or atopy. Atopic disorders include asthma, eczema, psoriasis, allergies, and autoimmune diseases.
New research from the National Institutes of Health demonstrates that exclusively breastfeeding your child for the first month of life results in a 35.3% increase in Th1 cells! Simply having a pet in the house results in a 34.5% increase in Th1 cells! By making these simple choices you can chart your child's course toward health--for the rest of her life!
Keep in mind that certain vaccinations, antibiotics, and antipyretics (fever reducers such as Tylenol and Ibuprofen) are associated with a shift toward Th2 dominance. Also remember that all of your immune organs are innervated by your sympathetic nervous system. This part of your nervous system works through your thoracic spine, and a single chiropractic adjustment causes beneficial changes in your immune system throughout your body!
