A new study evaluated the effectiveness of chiropractic care utilizing a flexion/distraction table versus physical therapy one year after treatment was completed. If you've been to my office you'll most likely have been on my flexion/distraction table--it’s the fancy table in room 2 that moves up and down. One year after treatment was completed, researchers found that "subjects who received chiropractic care (flexion distraction therapy) had significantly lower pain scores than subjects who received physical therapy (exercise program)." Chiropractic care improves functioning of the spine and the nervous system. Without proper function, no medication or exercise will provide lasting benefits. That is why time after time, chiropractic care provides superior results for spinal problems. If you know someone who has pain and has not tried chiropractic, do them a favor and refer them to a chiropractor! Link to J Altern Complement Med. 2006 Sep;12(7):659-68.
Aspartame, an incredibly popular food in the diet industry, has been shown in a recent, large, government--funded--and--published study, to increase ALL types of cancer. The authors of the 2006 study, published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, concluded that "The results of this mega-experiment indicate that aspartame is a multipotential carcinogenic agent, even at a daily dose of 20 mg/kg body weight, much less than the current acceptable daily intake. On the basis of these results, a reevaluation of the present guidelines on the use and consumption of aspartame is urgent and cannot be delayed."
This study was published by The National Institute of Environmental Sciences--your government--last March! Astonishingly, nothing has been done to limit the use of aspartame since that time. This may be due to the fact that aspartame is a worldwide, muti-billion dollar industry that began with Donald Rumsfeld as CEO of Searle Co.--the company that developed aspartame. Prior to Rumsfeld's success in getting aspartame approved, the FDA had rejected the approval for 16 years because it caused brain tumors in rats! What is aspartame? It’s an amino acid called phenylalanine, methanol (also known as "wood alcohol"--a known poison that breaks down into formaldehyde and formic acid after being acted on by the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase in your liver or after being held at temperatures above 86 degrees for a while), and aspartic acid.
You like aspartame because it binds excitatory nerve cells and gives your taste buds and your brain a thrill. The unfortunate part is this--in addition to giving you cancer, aspartame literally excites your brain cells to death. It does this by the same mechanism as a traumatic brain injury. After a traumatic brain injury an excitatory chemical in your brain called glutamate leaks out of damaged cells. Glutamate then binds the nerve cells in your brain and literally excites them until they degenerate--this causes damage after a severe blow to the head. Aspartame binds these same calls in the same way.
When you consume aspartame, it gets into your brain through an area called the "circumventricular window" (the rest of a healthy brain is protected by something called the blood-brain-barrier). This "window" is in an area called the hypothalamus--and the first area poisoned by aspartame is your hunger center. What does this mean for you?---You get fat! Check out this 2004 study showing that "There was a 41% increase in risk of being overweight for every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day"! I highly recommend that you not consume anything with aspartame in it--including nutra-sweet and sweet-n-low. If you have used aspartame or accidentally ingest it, a recent study showed that you can detoxify yourself of aspartame by elevating your glutathione levels--you can do this by taking N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) and undenatured whey protein.

An article to in "yahoo news" reviews some of the advantages to using "green" household cleaning supplies. "According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, potentially hazardous chemicals are widely used in conventional household products. Cleaning and disinfection products as well as paints and varnishes all contain chemicals called organic solvents. The compounds can be released into the air during use and even when stored, according to the EPA." The article goes on to discuss 2 companies called Caldrea and Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day, who claim their products "are earth-friendly, biodegradable, have no phosphate, no chloride, no solvents and are plant-derived, and not tested on animals". The next time you buy cleaning supplies, go to a local health food store and read the labels. In my opinion, cleaning is no fun--there's no sense in getting cancer while you do it!
